![]() Mr Show - Seasons 1 & 2, 1995-1996It's funny, but listed on IMDB as the plot outline is the following: This is a sketch-comedy show. The twist here is that all of the sketches (even the monolouge) are connected in some strange way. It's obvious that this person never watched any Monty Python. First off, you can find out anything you want on this comedic duo at their Official Site. Mr. Show is a modern Python, pure and simple... but going as far as possible to come across as anti-PC. Which I loved. Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, along with a rather large supporting cast throughout the show's four seasons, produced some of the funniest comedy to come out of television in a long time... and for a while, they found a home with HBO. I'm not sure why the show was cancelled, though. Bob Odenkirk has had a pretty fair career in comedy, prior to Mr. Show. His work on Saturday Night Live for four years, along with Get A Life and The Ben Stiller Show earned him a few Emmy awards. He's also had a few minor roles in some decent films... but his latest work, which he acted and helped write, Run Ronnie Run... well, that's been caught up in the politics of Hollywood Hell, which is very sad indeed. David Cross has had a little bit more mainstream work, in regards to acting... but does not have as much credit in the writing department. Both men worked on The Ben Stiller Show... and must have teamed up around that time to start Mr. Show, a couple years later. Cross also helped write Run Ronnie Run!, and star in it as well... let's hope it gets made soon. Cross has worked on a few big money makers, such as Waiting For Guffman, Men in Black, Small Soldiers, Ghost World, Pootie Tang, Scary Movie 2, and, even though he was killed, he'll have a different role in MIB II... he's a familiar face, and a great character actor... The first season is by far the more original, fresh and creative of the two. It's when Odenkirk and Cross were trying to prove they had what it took to create and maintain a level of great comedy. The second season started with a larger budget (it seemed)... and was relying on a much more complex connection throughout the half hour... and sometimes it was a little too much of a stretch. Still funny, but sometimes not as funny as usual. Don't get me wrong... for ten episodes on this two disc set, plus some really great extras (including an audio commentary for each episode)... this is such a great set, if you love raw comedy, and I would recommend it highly. A friend of mine had watched an episode or two with me... and she became offended at some of the religious implications that were being made... so, that was funny to me, too. It was a bonus! Tee hee. I will certainly be looking forward to the next release.
